Planned in 1999, Canottino (literally " inflatable raft") was selected among objects made by innovative designers by the "Officina delle Arti" (Workroom of Arts) and exhibited at the 2000 edition of "Casaidea" within the "Officina delle Arti" section.
Canottino is the result of a search for a different approach to a child's sleep whereby a child's bed is no longer conceived as a sort of cage where the child is to be kept. It is rather an object for a child to establish a free independent relationship, an object that helps a child to interpret its needs. The project development has taken into account all those important functions that have lead to the present appearance of the bed and the materials selected for its manufacture.
The bed dimensions and characteristics make it suitable for use when a baby is only a few months old up to when it reaches the height of cm 100 (4 or 5 years of age). The elastic edge has varied functions: it is high enough to buffer knocks, avoid falls and protect against draughts. At the same time it is short enough to be easily climbed over by a child when it starts being autonomous. By means of elastic anchoring systems that prevent accidents, a pole has been inserted into a corner of the edge that can be used for playing (flags, rattles and the like can be fixed onto it) or for fixing a mosquito-net.
Canottino is available in two versions ("Onda" and "Basic") having the same functions though different technical and aesthetical characteristics. It can be provided with three different kinds of mattress and a mosquito-net. On request we also provide additional covering pieces.
